NEGATIVE IMPACTS OF INTERNET ADDICTION
Globalization, as time goes by fulfilling the necessities of life is getting easier to do. Thanks to the rapid advances in technology, almost all needs, work, and other aspects can be completed easily and efficiently. Today, the use of technology cannot be separated from one of the non-material technologies, namely the internet.
With the emergence of the internet, many people are used as a medium of communication and a tool to facilitate work. This is manifested in the form of social media and the use of internet networks to find sources of information related to work and daily needs.
Nowadays, everything can be accessed quickly and accurately. However, using the internet is not always what many people are looking for according to their needs. It is undeniable that some people use the internet for things they shouldn't.
This incident was caused by their lack of control over themselves as a result of being too engrossed in using the internet. The reasons for being busy and the difficulty of a task given by an institution or company make many people look for entertainment on the internet as a medium to relax when carrying out these tasks.
The activities in the field were not following the plans that had been made. People who previously used the internet to relax due to fatigue at work have instead become addicted due to the treats and offers that the internet provides in large numbers and are tempting for internet users.
The impact of this event, many people in society such as parents, teenagers, and even children get bad things as a result of internet addiction. This impact occurs in all aspects related to the person's life. Starting from health, education, employment, religion, society, and culture, to family.
Starting from the impact on individual health such as lack of ideal sleep time and stress. Individuals who experience changes in sleep patterns often result in decreased sleep quality and causing daytime sleepiness (Clegg-Kraynok, McBean, and Montgomery-Downs, 2011). Correlation with increased health problems such as feeling anxious, depressed, angry, tired, and confused. Poor sleep quality also has a positive effect on decreasing life satisfaction (Pilcher, Ginter, and Sadowsky, 1997). Symptoms of individuals who have poor sleep quality are long in responding, reduced attention and concentration, forgetfulness, difficulty memorizing new information, and making mistakes and omissions (Gryglewska, 2010). Quoted from Kompas.com, that loss of appetite that does not get proper treatment can cause extreme fatigue, drastic weight loss, fever, irritability, and prolonged feeling unwell. If this condition is prolonged, it can cause a lack of vitamins and electrolytes which can lead to fatal and life-threatening complications.
On social impact, the lack of direct interaction with the other person and the appearance of feelings of fear, anxiety, anxiety, confusion, boredom, anxiety, panic, sadness, resentment, and annoyance. If you don't do anything, usually the individual will keep himself busy with the various activities he is making or sleep if he feels that he is at the end of the material in communication. This can trigger a person to become a closed person, or introvert, and can even be affected by mental disorders.
As a result of too often looking for something that is not important and making it as entertainment material, assignments given by companies, schools or campuses become heavier and feel longer when done. This happens because work is completed slowly and the brain cannot focus due to lack of rest.
In the religious aspect, looking for activities that are entertaining if done excessively will harm affected individuals. In the world of the Internet, things are very tempting. That is the reason why many internet users are too fanatical. So many of them seem to lack good behavior and lack of worship of God.
In conclusion, the use of the internet must increase the number of activities outside cyberspace. Such as doing sports, increasing worship, and socializing with the surrounding environment. Look for useful content that makes you more aware of a more useful and healthy life.
